Hey guys, thinking of buying the Sigma 10-20mm
f4-5.6 EX DC HSM for my 7D, really fancy a wide lens that doesn't cost me a fortune.Does anyone have one or used one? or is it worth me spending more and doing for a wide L lens? and if so any recommedations?
Thanks

I don't have this lens, but this may be useful....

I have a couple of other sigmas... both for nikon, both are quite sharp, but I've sold a couple of not-so-sharp sigmas also... they seem to vary a bit, so if you get one,try to be able to exchange it if you have to....
Note also that the Nikon mount sigmas may have fewer focussing oddities than the Canon mount sigmas from what I hear from a friend who works at a camera store...
The Canon L lenses don't have an easily equivelent focal length that I know of... the EF-S canon 10-22 is not bad, but a bit distortiony and pricey for what it is....

I say spend the extra cash and get the better version (L series) and be done with it. You dont want to buy that sigma lens now and then a few months down the road buy the better version. Too many photographers make this mistake (myself included).

i have it..
its nice and wide, the CA isnt too bad.. but its super slow and seems to search a lot in not even that low light..but for bang for your buck, its killer
am a bit saddened that when i move up to a 5D next, that it will be unusable..

I've used them for a Nikon mount before switching to 95% MF. I still have my macro which works like a charm and gives images as sharp as can be for a 10.2MP CCD. I haven't seen the results on any better/newer digital sensors, but it's also done extremely well on film with an FE and Nikkor lenses, Ilford Delta and Pan F which may be a better indication.

Thanks for the help guys!
Good to hear its a nice lens! The f4 does put me off a little. For a wee bit more I could go for the tokina 11-16 which is 2.8... But at that price Its pretty much the same as the L 17-40 f4, which isnt as wide, but will work in future when I move to FF and I assume being an L lens it will be well made? I guess I'm just worried about the f4.

if you have the cash, and arent too fussed about it being as wide as 10.. the 16-35L is a killer lens.. 2.8.. built like a tank but not heavy..
my favourite lens at the moment..
also, if you do go FF, then its heaps wider..
