At the dawn of satellite TV and live news reporting, there was an earthquake that happened somewhere... it may have been Peru but I can't recall... and the cameras were there. It was one of the first ever natural disasters to be covered globally and live by TV news.

There was a young girl, maybe 13 years old or so, who had got stuck in a storm drain, and her plight was one of the key eblems of the report.

She was trapped in this storm drain, and the water was slowly coming up to her neck. It went on for days. Nobody could free her, and people were having to feed her and comfort her. Everyone knew she was going to die. After many days, she got hypothermia, became hugely delirious, and eventually died. Live on TV.

She had jet black eyes. I need her name, or a picture, or some details to help me track the story down. Does this ring any bells for anyone out there????

    Any help gratefully appreciated.
