When creating an email newsletter, is it possible to change the subject line style, font, color, etc... so when opened in outlook it doesnt look like the default style?

Can it be done?

Highly doubt you can do that. When it comes to html emails less is best.

sort of... note that there are MANY versions of MS Outlook, so either test like crazy, or be ready for some oddball freakouts...
- In 15 years of using Outlook Ive never seen a custom design subject line.CygnusZero4
- I have a client trying to get me to do this. lolCygnusZero4

I've been noticing icons in the subject lines of emails from Virgin America, Banana Republic, and Pottery Barn Kids on my iphone. Not exactly the style you were asking about but as a veteran of email design this is something I haven't seen before.
- I guess Pinterest too - http://swiftpage.fil…whatthefunk

tell your client no. if i saw this going on in my inbox i'd nuke it on sight. it's like people who spruce up craiglist ads with ascii putrefaction. it is annoying.

and honestly, as per above, it boils down to a gut reaction to be suspicious of such tactics.
everyone, incl. your client, should be able to understand that. we all get those emails that pretend to be something they're not. does your client really want to be one of those guys?
just provide me with info and don't resort to spells and wizardry to get noticed.
- Clients are fucking idiots. Im sure you know that by now.CygnusZero4
