hey i've been asked to create line work similar these ribbons
I've managed to create the three lines okay but just cant get the tapering/Depth right where they bend, any suggestions/tuts?

I would make a swirly s line, duplicate it so that it overlaps itself,
use the blend tool (specify the steps)
then expand appearance, then outline stroke
then pathfinder/divide and select the new shapes and add the different colours.there's probably better ways but i'd approach it along those lines.

You need to create these elements as separate pieces. Not as one main piece of art.

do it properly (ie draw it) and then trace and clean up in illustrator. Then you'll have full control over it.

wow... drawing scanning cleaning... that'd take me forever
below is just the same line copied, pasted, aligned - calligraphy brush the flattened and the return shaded slightly - took less than a minute.

Once you're done with the angle, just expand / ungroup and arrange backward or frontward depending what you want.
