any recommendations? I know it's not that easy but I have to write copy for my portfolio and I want to write a lot more blog posts. so any good ideas? I find that, like design, I truly admire writing that is simple and connects but find it impossible to accomplish myself...

The best way to become a better writer is by reading good written stuff, as in books, stories, news columns.
Otherwise, I recommend this book:
1) The Elements of Style
by William Strunk, E.B. WhiteIn other words, the book is about writing correctly, as in formats, grammar, etc. Not about creative writing. But it seems to be what you are looking for in regards to your portfolio, etc.
- thank you. I will check this out

Read this:
http://www.amazon.com/Writing-We…Write everyday. Something I read (on writing) recently said, "If you lift weights everyday for a year, you'll have bigger muscles. If you write everyday for a year, you'll write better."
Listen: when people talk; to news stories; to how you sound when you speak. What works? What introduces the listener to the topic and engages them insofar as they actually want to hear more? What works aurally, works in the written word.

Set 10 minutes of your day aside for a writing exercise. The rule is to write anything that comes to mind, without hesitating and without stopping. Just think that no one will ever read what you put down, it can be the craziest thoughts.
Do this everyday for 10 minutes.

read a lot. specifically, when you come across a passage you do like, try and note what it is you admire. try and apply those notes to your own writing.

you've got to write to become a better writer. Strunk & White is a good reference. You can find other grammar and style guides online.
It also helps to find somebody whose writing you like and really watch how they write and absorb their tricks and pacing. Copy a few people's styles and eventually you'll develop your own voice within a framework that you're heading after.
bon champs.
- Yes. It's hard but great to realize when you've been influenced. It's no shortcut, but it does light the way. Practice.mikotondria3
