Does anyone have some good suggestions for outdoor things to do in and around Breckenridge, Colorado in the summer?
My wife and I are going there for a long weekend in August. I've only been there in the winter to board, she's never been at all. We're staying in Breck and will have a rent car - 3 nights there, and a 4th night somewhere else.
Definitely planning on some hiking and mountain biking, taking the lifts up, etc. but what other things are around the area that are fun, good for photography, animals, etc?
I'm always jealous of those of you whole live in CO and have posted pictures of long hiking/biking trips, old mines, etc.

independence pass is a nice area to explore. it's just a bit west of Leadville and you have the two tallest peaks Elbert and Massive (which has 5 peaks all over 14k ft), very nearby.

Thanks Jay. I've been watching the fire maps when it was really bad to see where it was going on. Luckily didn't get too close to Summit County.

Go hike Mohawk Lakes and then drive back into town and go to either the Breckenridge Brewery for happy hour then if you can still stand go to the Breck Distillery.
- Nice, been to the brewery many times, but not the distillery. What do the make there?mg33

Hot springs, do some research and you might find an hiking trail that leads to a remote natural spring.

I've always been kind of intrigued by the lake that's on Peak 8, just below the lake chutes. Anyone ever taken the lifts up and hiked around there?
https://maps.google.com/maps?q=b…I've snowboard there about 5 - 6 times and I'm actually really excited to take some photos on the mountain at places I've ridden. Last year we took the Imperial Chair up and would love to get up there without snow.
