Pressure in terms of the expectation from yourself and others to to great work, better than before, receive recognition & exposure, building your career/reel/folio, fulfilling a deep nagging itch you have etc. is a great thing.
Pressure in terms of working with stressful dickheads and deadlines is a terrible thing.

Adrenaline is the very best drug to sharpen one's senses. As is the copious amounts of RedBull, coffee and 5hour energy that can unstick stock concepts, and aid one in tirelessly and flawlessly code and zip up the last 10 'just need to...'s of a project. Those things that'll run you over days if you try to do them when you think you should. Nature works like this, and so should you.

I think a lot of "creatives" lie to themselves when they say they work best/better under pressure.
- that must mean they are bullshit artists then?omg
- Doesn't mean they are bullshit, but they are bullshitting themselves.studderine
- i think this too. Especially about myself...fresnobob

Interestingly I find that I can accomplish a lot, and quicker, while under pressure. Thing is, while this work is generally pretty good compared to the work that is done given a longer timeline, I feel I would really be able to push things even further had I had another period of time following the deadline. I guess what I'm saying, is a false deadline would be awesome (assuming I "knew" it was a real deadline), then being surprised with more time to really clean up the work and make it great would be a good strategy for me.
I tend to lollygag a bit when it feels like I have all the time in the world. Definitely work less efficiently.
I guess a time boxing strategy would work on me.
- Rusty... i think it's common in a world full up of "things to do," and "ADD." hi5 to the procrastinators out there...ohhhhhsnap
- for getting shit done and making your clients happy even if you're a last minute type. aohhhhhsnap

I would say I rarely, if ever, have produced my best work when under pressure. I'm a plower and plodder if there ever was one.
As for watching other people perform under pressure: I can say that i've seen some colleagues do some really cool, creative work while under the gun. However, as omg mentioned, it rarely resulted in the best solution for the problem, as those solutions were hasty at best.

I find pressure forces bad design decisions to be made. Used by people who cannot abide by a real schedule.

Sometimes it's the only thing that gets me to finish a job! Otherwise I'll explore different ideas endlessly.

My prev CD utilized his military background to test his new recruits during the 1st 3 months & found out that I work(ed) best under pressure. From then on he'd postpone briefs for me just so Id only have the last minutes to come up with ideas & execute them. It sucked for me but for him it worked LOL.
- ludicrous business strategy - i give him 2 monthsfadein11
- he does know that he's not in the military anymore right?ohhhhhsnap

who else works better under pressure? blessing? curse? both?
i could have 2-3 weeks to complete a design, and i'll will wait till the last minute (within the last 24 - 48 hours) to finish up before the deadline.
