Question for those of you with 5.1 receivers and speaker setups in your homes. When you listen to music, do you always switch from the full surround mode to a regular Stereo mode?
I just set up a new Marantz receiver last night and can't actually decide which sounds better - the full Dolby surround mode, or the stereo mode for music.
Just curious what you guys think.

I always switch it to stereo. All of the music I listen to is mixed in stereo, it's intended to be heard in stereo so that's how I set it. I'm not sure how the receiver splits a stereo signal into 5.1

I usually just leave my receiver to change it to 5.1
Just base it on what sounds best to you? If you think having it on stereo sounds better stick with that. I just like to have something coming out of center speaker.

I switch between 2.1 stereo and a neural thx setting that does wonders with music. Some stereos have many 5.1 options that are designed specifically for music, including dts and Dolby that arent too bad. Your system probably has a 5-way stereo that plays full signals to all speakers that is sometimes fun if you want full volume.

Ask a true artist. Mono is best.
