There hasn't been anything interesting on the web for a while.
I can think of a handful of cool experiments, but they're far and few between.
The web has become the new phone book. We might as well be working on an assembly line in a factory.

And to add, I loved the days of Flash actually. Not because of everything it accomplished in a few years, but where it could have continued going.
Websites, serving as communication tools, but also a medium where web designers could constantly created something new, much like print designers. This was almost expected from clients.

I think that customers don't want to take chances anymore...
I guess it is back to websites like praystation where you would show experiments to customers to make them exited,,,

it's really been odd times, i've been thinking about that for a while, everything is boring.
anyways, I guess I am kinda lucky, cos I'm doing some nice projects lately, most of them still Flash tho.

well, I just posted about the new gizmodo.com, it's a clear example of what's going on.

99% of digital design became an oversaturated, unholy turd of an industry.

Webdesign became twitter bootstrap...

I'm guessing you are talking about media rich sites like HiRes & Big spaceship used to make?

Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter, Social Media, Blogs, DIY Website Design, etc... killed web design.

WEB DESIGN BECAME...
..Less about creating and communicating an experience and more of a list of things clients wanted the website to 'do'.
..About how to slightly differently decorate the same design of web-page which coalesced around a news/blog stream of varying complexities.
..Stagnant once broadband enabled the standardization of multimedia bandwidth delivery and there stopped being a progression of complexity of what you could stuff down a user's pipe. From simple text-only, to more images, to small flash files, to large flash files, to massive images and small video to unlimited video - there it stopped. That train reached the end of the line.

Meh. I've been doing this since the 20th century :D
When I finished school, my portfolio was a Macromedia Director site. I've seen a lot of changes, like many here, but I find there are still interesting clients and jobs to be had. It's foolish to lament about days where a client was so ignorant they left it all to you. Every industry matures, it's just the way it is.

But technology and web fonts are better than ever.
There's so many more possibilities now than there were.
And flash always SUCKED!
- There is awesome shit now. Imagine having webfonts and jquery in 1998...!!mikotondria3

ITT: People who actually liked Flash sites.
- to be an interactive / digital designer and say you never liked a flash site is the most ludicrous statementfadein11
- Yeah I'm only kidding, I did like them in the past.animatedgif

One day, someone is going to use the web as a platform for art/entertainment on par with a feature film. In terms of popularity, scope, and subject, there will be something that is a legitimate and popular piece of art.
And you'll all chime in "Of course! We knew it all along! The web is magical and special! It's more than a phonebook...I've been saying it for years!"
But you'll bitterly regret that you didn't try it yourself, because you thought web design was only about usability, standards, and hating flash.
- it already is on par with any art form ~SlashPeckham
- Yeh, I've got some great concepts for fantasy-level technology re immersive AR etc..mikotondria3

I disagree. Creating new and interesting responsive designs is an inspiring new direction for web design.

Responsive Design is like when people where getting excited about Usability and Validating a HTML page...

clearly, you've not learned to express yourself as well as you believe your thoughts
this is nothing more than a pity party from a jaded semi-professional.
buttons > images > text
oh my shit all these fucking magazines look the same, newspapers look the same
industry standards what?
lol
- same old negative shit streaming out of you. bore offfadein11

LOL @albums Well, no need to be aggressive. What makes you think I'm a semi professional??
I am a well established professional and did very well designing very large sites.Somehow I feel the web design community has become incredibly close minded. Maybe because it is such an Engineering lead industry....
Magazines DO NOT LOOK THE SAME, and in terms of visual design I still see a lot more innovation in nice print publications than online.
- You realize pretty quickly albums is a miserable asshole in every thread. Ignore him.CygnusZero4
