Can anyone recommend a well-made and well-designed briefcase? I love Porter bags, but don't want to pay $500. Somewhere in the $300 or less range would be ideal. I want something I can use for decades. So I guess that means leather or canvas would be best.
I need enough room for a 15" MBP, iPad, notebooks, etc. Shoulder strap preferred.

If you want to use something for 'decades', why not just spring for the $500 bag? If you know you will put it to good use, dont cheap out and get something nice and worth keeping! :)

if you love porter bags, you should understand they have 2 levels of branding..
1- Porter
2- Head Porterhead porter is lower priced for mass market and similar designs and spec and fabric towards the mass market consumer.
why look at other brands when the one you love is available at the price you want to spend.
