$20 / bottle seems excessive

Yeah, I've had it. Pretty impressive stuff. Makes Westmalle seem mild.

The bottles have been sold without labels since 1945. All of the legally required information is printed on the crown tops. Because of this lack of space, Westvleteren beers are the only Trappist beers that do not have the official Trappist logo displayed on the bottle. The logo is only printed on the distinctive wooden crates. Any bottles that are labelled have had them added unofficially by others. For example, some importers into the United States label the bottles in order to comply with local regulations.

monks probably fast with this shit

Brewing has been part and parcel of life here since the early days, offering nourishment in times of fasting and, as at the other Trappist monasteries that brew, also providing financial input, a revenue stream that helps keep the abbey ship-shape and supports worthy local causes.

I thought it said "Crappist".

i've had 2 bottles of Westvleteren 12.
it's pretty great but I'm not in a position to say it's the best in the world - I have had other beers that when I'm drinking I think they are the best.
i think the experience was tainted by the fact I already know it was always rated best in world

Gonna ask if they have it today.
