find out about agencies in your area and reach out to them, you have more chances of getting hired if they have no open positions at the moment

LinkedIn / Networking, #1 option IMO.
Get contacted about projects all the time, from major ad agencies or direct clients. Just about every exec in an ad agency or major company uses it. Build your network. Every time you work for a company, connect with all of the folks you work with. Then get references or referrals.
Those other places are hit or miss and not really places you can actually "look". You basically put a folio up and wait for a client to look for you. LinkedIn allows you to actually do something about getting new clients.
I'd imagine being repped is great but definitely not through a place like Aquent / Create Circle...unless you don't mind them getting a 90% cut of what's being charged.
What do you do if you don't mind me asking?

- reps always take a cut, that's how they work. and they have decent work sometimes, just gotta be picky.doesnotexist

I'm on nearly every single site that allows me to network, cor0flot, linkdn, flickr, instagram, facebook, g+, krop, creative hotlist, etc.
I also was lucky to get little write ups here and there in a couple of blogs/ books and magazines...none of that worked for me for other than connecting with people.
The few times I got to close deal and actually got jobs was by using benanxe and craigslist (I got gigs at vans and fuel tv from that last one believe it or not), but benanxe in the last couple of years landed me 3 agency jobs, I've been on it since forever and all my stuff is outdated, but I think in the las couple of years blew up and agencies started scouting for talent there..
just thought I'd share with those looking for gigs...
