So I am doing a quick course on HTML5. the new tag system for Nav, and Header and so on, these element s are not block level correct, so are they classed as inline tags, and if so i'm right in thinking to add style to these new element you will have to make them block elements.

btw yes pillhead, that's the deal... if you don't use thon shiv or css reset (most resets set html5 elements to block for older browsers) sthg like:
nav, header, footer {
display:block;
}

those new tags are pretty useless

^^ pretty much, at some point in the future it may give slight accessibility and seo advantages... as html5 isn't actually a standard (yet) all browsers will pretty much style any element with the same rules (as an inline div). here's a demonstration of the undocumented "nazi sympathiser" element:

Do people know - if you create a site in HTML5, does it have negative impacts on ranking compared to a semantically coded normal HTML file?
