Dont spose anyone in London has a full version of OS X 10.5 (ish) kicking around that I could borrow to format an old computer?
I have the disks that came with the machine but since I have put in a new HD they are saying they won't install on it....THE SWINES!

Do you think another disc will help when the disc you have won't? I think it might be a formatting problem with the HD, so you might be looking at reformatting for something more OS X friendly and backing up. Peace.

Sounds like your HD isn't formatted for OSX.

think so too.

The discs I have are the Grey manufacturer discs that you get when you buy it and they are locked to specific hardware (i guess so you cant lend it to others to install the software), I think I either have the discs from a different machine or because I have put in a new drive it see's it as not being original set up.I have checked the HD set up and partitioning and it is correct for installing OS X, just need to get hold of the full version so I can install it.

two ways. either buy it or download a torrent.

I just sold mine on eBay for more than I paid for it back in 2008. Madness!

Yeah they go for silly money, cos they (apple) discontinue them as soon as new versions are released. thats why I'm trying to borrow it. I'm just trying to get the mac back to life to sell it without it costing me more than its worth, I've already had to shell out on new HD.

Just get the torrent, it's not like you don't have the a license for the OS.
This said, it is the first time I hear about OSX installation stopped because of a hard drive change. Did it specifically say it was the drive or just incompatible hardware?

If you want to pay for it, why don't you look for Snow Leopard upgrade disk? It was much cheaper when it came out and since you have the original Leopard disks, you are eligible for the upgrade.

Some of the installation disks don't work from one Mac to another, but the retail version installs on all.

Exactly, which is why Im trying to locate full retail version.......
Guessing no-one local has or is willing to lend?- you checked on TPB?ernexbcn

There's a good MAC/second hand shop on 35 goodge street, (just of the Tottenham court road). He will sort out any opertaing system needs for you. If you are looking to sell he may even take it off you too.
My girlfriend has been trying to sort out a version of Snow Lepoard, with MAC for the last couple of months, the call's go to the US & they just seem to delay the whole process.
Crazy Customer Service Policy!
Have heard that MAC are not wanting to sell it anymore, so people will be obliged to buy a new MAC, if they want to run any new software that requires latest operating system!
- First, it's Mac (short for Macintosh), not MAC. And I believe you're talking about Apple's business.monospaced

That doesn't even make sense. Not selling the old software doesn't force someone to buy a new computer. You can just buy the new operating system and install on an old computer. If you want to downgrade you just use the old discs. There is no scam, think it through.
