Printing Duplex on Laser

I'm printing booklets on a laser printer. 8 A4 page b/w duplex. It's a 30MB PDF and it's taking about 40 mins to complete one set of double sided 8 sheet of A4. It's a new Samsung - more RAM do you think, or faulty machine? It prints fast duplex 'blanks' and low text, just images causing a looooong delay.

PDF is a highly compressed format. The actual spool might be a lot larger. Just in case, downsample the images to the printer resolution and ensure that ALL gradients and transparencies are flattened. It takes ages to process them and usually fuck everything up.

The printer res is higher than the file anyway I think. I'm 99% everything is flattened. It's a 64mb 400Mhz printer - I thought that should be fast enough. Printing booklet direct from indesign is the same.

That's ridiculous, 40 minutes? Sounds fishy, I would go to tech support if that were happening to me. Frustrating!

Yes, 5 mins to first sheet then five to the next and so on. Samsung have said I should return it because they think the memory should allow to print a 30mb image based book fast, I'm not so sure though because it prints blanks fast so there's no problem with the duplex unit.

ha, yes they did but it's the same on two printers and generally helplines aren't as helpful as people who've used the products or similar - hence me asking.
