Last friday the power steering in my Mini Cooper S failed whilst driving to work in the morning. Luckily I was on a straight road in the city centre and not booting it on an open country road otherwise i'd have ended up in a ditch.
This is a known problem with the early Mini's and has been on the news and all over mini forums online. If your car is out of warranty then sometimes you'll have to pay around £400 to get it fixed or sometimes BMW will pay for most of it and ask for a contribution of around £100 from the owner.
Well, I got a call from my local franchise yesterday after dropping the car off there last friday. They'd put in a 'goodwill' request to BMW to see if they would pay any towards the fixing of my car, and .....
.... they are paying the full whack for me! :)
My car is years beyond when it's warranty ran out yet they are paying the whole £400ish.
It seems there IS such a thing as Christmas Cheer!
Thank you BMW and Merry Christmas.

First world problems.

How surprising, they're fixing their broken shit within warranty.

BMW is usually a stand up group like this, they've done the same for me, given me loaners, when they really didn't need to do it.
Happy Christmas, in other words!

it's a 2004 plate.

... plus i've never used the dealer (stealer) for getting work done on the car as a lot of mates are mechanics or I use local garages as they are much cheaper or mini tuners for tuning work. So it's not even as if they are treating me nice cos i'm a loyal customer.

I know a couple of people who drive Mini's... I'll tell them.... god knows they paid enough for those cars already....

"BMW is usually a stand up group like this".... umm not if you extend that to MINI. How many have gone up in flames now? And they're still refusing to recall them or pay compensation.
- no, they are either contributing towards fixes or for free (like me)23kon

my friend has a mini and drove it years without changing the oil. The engine seized on him and the bmw/mini dealer replaced the engine at no cost. Lucky bastards

Fooler, that's crazy. Did he/she own it from new?
You'd have thought that BMW would've checked the service history file for that car and turned round and said 'no wonder its seized, you've never had it in for a service with us!'

I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that, but come on this really is one pug-ugly car. Even all the ridiculous wrc bells and whistles can't disguise just what a hideous mess this is. It's like and old woman who's had too much botox/collagen/facelifts. I really don't know what BMW/MINI were thinking when they produced this mess.
apologies for the thread hijack/diversion
- pug ugly is right, there's a certain bulldog lip bulgy eyes wide-stance thing going on there...vaxorcist

BMW has replaced a few parts on my car without charge (after I bitched about it), which was quite nice. But they do get you with the other items, like a $400 battery. Overall, though, they have been great.
- $400 battery, damn... long live Honda Parts Prices...vaxorcist
- "Performance cars need performance parts", or so that's the logicformed
- logic? you mean sales spiel, especially when you are talking about a battery. if it pumps out the right amps when you need them and is reliable... that's all you fucking need.Amicus

Yeah, it's not a pretty classic thing like a prestige car. This is a RALLY car for f*ck sake! what do you expect!
It's the same as the WRC Subaru's or any other make of car that's used for rallying. They are built for purpose not for beauty.
It's a mini on steroids that's built for beasting across rough terrain and coping with it.
I'd have one in a shot if I had the cash!
