How's it during New Years? Worth going? Just looking for a fast, festive, cheap vacation via NYC, very last-minute. If so, recommendations on where to stay?

FREEZING. Temperature is anywhere around -10 to -12 F considering that it's so close to the open water.
They usually have a big outdoor show at the Place D'Youville square for New Years, it get jam packed with people early on and if you want to leave the area to warm up somewhere indoors, you usually can't get back in.
A lot of nice small restaurants in Vieux Quebec, nice culture and architecture etc.
But keep in mind most everything is closed on the 1st of January too.
If you need more info, hit me up.

If it were later in January I'd say to check out Winterlude and skate on the Rideau Canal.
Otherwise I would suggest Montreal. Quebec City is better for checking out the architecture. Not really for a ton of activities (but I haven't been there for years, so I don't know for sure).
