there was a photoshop filter a long while back that would simulate the lossy/block-y compression artifacts introduced when saving a jpg over and over again.
anyone recall what that is or how to simulate it, without actually doing the saving over and over?

i'm trying to composite several 3d rendered element back into several jpg damaged frames and I want to interactively dial in the same amount of damage. I recall a filter that did this. Doing it manually is a lot of trial and error for the number of frames i need to do. Machine Wash is close but not quite it.

For After Effects, there's Gen Art's Sapphire "Jpeg Damage" which has about a dozen controls on lossiness, very controllable..
