Expanding a mask in AI

  Anyone know if expanding a mask in Illustrator is possible to make placement easier?

  Basically I need the masked section to become the complete object.

  The only thing I can compare it to is how you expand a blend to edit individual elements.

  The object you're masking with (placing into) should be a Compound Shape. I hope that helps.
