right typically software needs the higher range of information to light a digital 3d scene, they've made it possible with any photograph and summarized a lot of advanced CGI stuff into this application. They call a regular non-HDR photograph 'LDR' for 'legacy dynamic range' which basically means anything...

"With only a small amount of user interaction, our system allows objects to be inserted into legacy images so that perspective, occlusion, and lighting of inserted objects adhere to the physical properties of the scene. Our method works with only a single LDR photograph, and no access to the scene is required.."

    • actually, ldr stands for low dynamic range, but whatever..SteveJobs
    • oh, i got confused because they call photos 'legacy' everything in the write upeieio

and to be more technical for computer-related imaging, ldr is generally 8-bit or 16-bit images. hdr is expressed in 32-bit images where floating point values are used to store color data.

    • err. floating point values for color channels. (since i'm trying to be technically accurate here)SteveJobs
    • i knew that, never heard of LDR thougheieio
