Legitimate forum to pimp product?

Well, it's been some time since I've put product into a thread. The last several times I've been here it's been just to ask a question. No links, no hints at pimping product. Yes, there was an occasion where I put some links in a signature, months ago, but nothing since.
I simply thought I'd put this out there and see if anyone else had thoughts on the matter.
And if you did indeed link to your own work, you were pimping product. Relevant or not, in the back of your mind doesn't one always hope that someone might see it, spread the link and perhaps you'd find a new project out of it?

I actually think it would be just fine for everybody who has anything to promote to use a single thread to do so. kinda like that insomnia guy who has a new meme-based iphone app every week. or if that funny graffish guy had just reposted that same video in just one thread. how less annoying would he have been?

Aye, it's a question of manners.
People who use a forum as a forum, with regularity, get it.
Those who just wish to spam themselves and get linkspread, probably don't.

I guess it's not the sort of thing you can really explain to the opposing divide.

It's difficult out here with no budget. Just post your stuff up and ignore the haters. Fuck it.
