Partial CC Numbers stored

I bought some goods from a local online store some time back. Used my CC to purchase.
Just went back to buy something else and went to update my personal info. Apparently they are storing half my credit card number online - first 4 digits and last 4 digits.
Is this safe? How hard is it to crack a CC number with the middle 8 digits missing?

Total number of combinations is 9 x 10^7 (that is 9 times 10 to the power 7) ways.

So reasonably safe?

I'm not sure about 'storing' but it is usual for receipts to contain the first load of numbers from your card.
Pretty strange them storing the last four though!
If someone got ahold of one of your receipts from this place i'd imagine it would have most of the number minus the last 4 digits.
And if the shop has your last 4 digits, all it would take is a dodgy worker there to be able to scam your card.Depends how much you trust this shop.
I joined a local Blockbuster a few months ago and they asked for card details or show passport etc. I showed passport. Feck giving them my details when I don't need to, esp to dodgy looking students who only work there for a few months at a time then leave.
