I've used it twice in New York. I've also rented out my apartment in San Francisco. All have been good experiences.

I use it a lot to sublet my apartment when I travel which is quite a bit. In fact Im subletting my apt for at least a few weeks in October. Most of the time, people pay my whole rent and then some for a couple of weeks. I've never had a bad experience -- ever. I've never used it to book a trip yet, but I intend to. I wish they had an option for housing swaps because I do that much more often than I sublet.

I am working at the moment as their photographer in Flemish region of Belgium, so I am meeting many landlords in their places...they are PACKED with bookings, some of them don't have room to rent in 2011 anymore thanks to airbnb...so I guess someone is using it :D

Yes used it once - Apartment was lovely but unfortunately Anthony Rossomando of the Dirty Pretty Things lived in the apartment above us and decided to throw an all night party (which included playing the drums).

The iPhone app is really nice.

Stayed with AirBnB once, all good.
I'm curious if it's like what they say about couchsurfing.org though: if the image of the host is somewhat provocatively flirtatious, this could mean sex.

Used it in Amsterdam, Sydney and San Francisco, all good.

So, what do you do with all the shit you don't want people going through? Do you store it somewhere? Do you make an inventory of all the valuables? Does one have to purchase renter's insurance and then deal with potential claims of an authorized guest stealing stuff?
Initially I thought it might be a nice way to get a few bucks while I'm on vacation, but I just a headache. Is this really safe?
- just realized my close friend photographs for airbnb in nyc, I'll ask himmonospaced
