So instead of saving money for a trip I should just start a kick start project?
- Sorry if I'm missing something, but how is this different than begging?aldebaran

@aldebaran: raising funds for a creative project and saving money for a trip are two very different things. they're trying to raise $45k.. quite a bit more than a vacation to iceland would cost. if you think it's stupid, don't donate.. no need to shit all over them and call them beggars. i'm sure they have quite a bit of personal funds invested already.

aldebaran,
Think of it this way: let's say these guys go off and do it, and you never know about it until it's complete, but their product is cool, you like the music, photos, want to buy some incarnation of the final product, so you pay $100 for what they're offering. That money helps pay them back for production, materials, the trip itself etc.
Now, imagine that you have paid that money up front to help them have the money in pocket at the beginning, and you still get the goods when they're done.
They're not just taking off to please themselves. You're not paying for someone (well, you're definitely not paying shit towards it as we can clearly see) to just gallivant around and have a good time. There is a defined end result, people are just paying for that final product up front.

Christ. For a $5,000 bid they should take me with them on their publicly funded vacation.

That place is expensive as hell. Really glad we went but still have not checked my checking account since we got back.
- You don't budget your trips?CuriousGeorge
- We do that. But watched what we spent closely, "splurged" on good dinners where needed.mg33
