Client Ditched My Work

So I did some freelance for a start-up a couple months back. A quick Identity that I thought out turned out pretty good given the small budget and poorly defined direction the start-up was taking.
Fast forward a couple of months and the start-up is now rolling out their product with new 'branding'.
Now, I actually spoke with this client before and they mentioned they might be changing direction. Which I was fine with because well, I had already been paid for the work.
But I can't help but feel really underwhelmed and disappointed in their new direction. Even if what I had come up with didn't communicate their intent I believe my solution was much better than their current choice.
Has anyone dealt with this before?
Also, i'm not going to name names. If you want to see the work you can email me.

Who cares, they didnt like your work and moved on.
Come to think of it, not sure if anyone would care to email to you see the work.
- Don't you have a stock ticker to watch?d_rek
- Also, I have presumed much. My apologies. I should know better than to expect anything but hostility and apathy.d_rek
- It's even quite presumptuous to believe someone would read this comment.d_rek
- You assume that your work is actually good. Lose the ego and stop whining.JSK

Similar shit happens to us all from time to time.
You'll roll up to look at some work you'd done a while ago and then you realised that some form of daft politics and association has caused them to get a far inferior site to the one you'd done for them. It happens.

Sadly, it happens.
They probably got begged by the secretary's neighbour's mother-in-law to let junior loose on the logo with MS Paint, because he's 'really a talented boy, and this would make him so happy', despite the fact he's a biology nerd with terminal social maladroitness, especially when it comes to girls his own age.
I wouldn't take it too personally.
- or maybe OP's logo sucked, I mean we can't judge without seeinganimatedgif

Do the work. Walk away. Away.
- d_rek0
I don't really take it personally. Business is business.
I guess what i'm feeling is more disbelief than anything. In my eyes it's like trading in a BMW for a Pontiac.
But hey, such is... I just figured i'd blather about it. Sorry that I don't have any animated GIFs or Chicks to add to the COTD thread =(
- Next time i'll suck it up and just Repress. Repress. Repress.d_rek

You don't think the Pepsi guy is pissed too?
F outta here :)
- jon_d0
In the end it's up to the brand owner to decide, and they may F it up. You know this, and you know you can't take it personal.

- If you check his portfolio and google the clients you can figure out which it is.animatedgif

- Oh right... that makes 2 clients who have ditched your work then. Add Apparatus to the listanimatedgif

They want to start a business.
They want a logo and business card.
They want to control this process for the next 12 months.
They won't be successful.Happens so often. Don't take it personally.
- jon_d0
well your portfolio shows you to be a very advanced conceptual designer. you will be fine.

Funny thing about designers....
They think they are always right.
Funny thing about clients....
They sign the cheques to this idiosyncrasy
- dbloc0
got the link...i agree it is shit...the kerning is horrid.
as a designer you just have to let shit like this go..it happens too often.

To answer your first question, yes it has happened to me before. But they came back to me several months later :) hope that helps...
