I've been busy with a lot of different projects lately and have several in the queue, and have been considering teaming up with a designer. The problem is, it's hard to find you guys. What do I do, use google or sites that lists folks like you and pour through portfolio's? Ughh. What I want is to be able to just scroll through a gallery of indexed, searchable work and quickly pick a few from the list and then contact them see if their services are available.
I've actually had this idea in the back of my head for a few years now, but friday afternoon i decided to knock it out really quick. However, I'm very busy right now, so I only allotted myself
24 hours to finish the project - concept to completion. I managed to finish a little over that adding the final touches sunday morning, but I'm satisfied with the results.Take a look at the sample accounts (content credit goes to ffffound) which will be removed shortly and feel free to add yourself as one of the first to the site:
Ok, back to work on my other projects now :)

Out of curiosity, are you allowing search engines to index profiles, or no?
- no seo work has been done *yet*. admittedly, that's one area i need help in. trooperbill, where are you?!SteveJobs
- I'd actually rather there wasn't any profile indexing. :\Continuity

Nice Job, pun intended...

Btw, right after relevance, profile creation date will dictate your position in search results. So if this site does get any traction, the early adopters will be served up before the bandwagoners.

Nice. Clean. Beautiful.
How are clients drilling into the content? Is it just a generic search or will there be development into indexing?
- SteveJobs0
Good question, MrAbominable. The site supports full-text indexing - the stuff that drives powerhouses like ebay. It's not mickey mouse by any means. It can be tweaked later if needs be. I almost added proximity searching, but that would have pushed me well past my 24hr deadline.
- Thanks. I've registered. Will add pics later.MrAbominable

@dMullins
Interesting, haven't seen that one before. I suppose they are similar, but a little too web 2.0ish for my taste. I took a minimalistic approach to accentuate the work and I think it's just classier. Quality over quantity.- I find it to be a bit utilitarian, don't know if that's classy or not.********

If someone is looking for a designer in this sort of way, they probably don't care much for the design of the site itself. More important is, "Does it help me find the right kind of designer I need?" Which is to say, you're probably right in keeping it minimal.
What is Web 2.0 about Sortfolio to you? I find that expression about the design of something to be terribly fetid? Sortfolio is owned by Basecamp/37 signals now...so I guess you might say their brand structure is a bit web 2.0ish, but design-wise, I don't think I see it.

i like it but i really dont care

Similar:
http://designspiration.net/- i mean, not really. this doesn't help me find designers. this shows me thumbnails or design work.********
- That is very nice! But, slightly different in approach..SteveJobs

So, at which point will real content from real people replace placeholder content?

i signed up. nothing happened.
- check your mail for the email verification link. might have gotten filtered as spamSteveJobs

Continuity, you should be able to upload now. I think there was a glitch earlier today that should be taken care of. Once you've got content up AND have verified your email, your profile will be visible.
A lot have signed up, but everybody is waiting for everybody else to go first it looks like, haha. Just do it!
