I think the biggest problem is that no one has seen the logo in context yet and is getting their retro-loving hipster panties in a knot. I think it's not bad, it's not great. It's going to look just fine on a jersey, on hats, and on the ice and that's pretty much all that matters.
My biggest issue with the primary mark is the notch in it that breaks the flow and makes the whole design less harmonious. That, and it kind of looks like the jet is exploding into a fiery maple leaf shaped mess. And yes. God yes...the script typeface is pants.
