Ok here goes. I'm doing a multi pass render of several different things including an ambient occlusion layer (which is my shadows). When I pull that render into AE it's black shadows on a white background. I set the layer to Multiply boom done everything works well.
Except, the project i'm working on requires me to deliver a transparent video (of a logo animation) that can easily be dropped onto any number of videos (without the use of after effects)
Sooo... Anybody know how I can render that ambient occlusion layer with transparency. Just the black shadows and and an alpha channel? I'm totally stuck.
Cheers!

Install the Pixel Bender extension into photoshop CS5 first. Then install the pluging into the pixel bender directory.
If you can actually use AFX, use the XMult plugin.

Google that shit for documentation. Works like a charm for compositing.

use the ambient occlusion layer in after effects as a luma matte on itself. then render out as RGB+A. that might work?
