Kindle App vs iBooks App?

So I got one of those iPad 2s and now I'm about to finally start using it to read ebooks.
Now, between the nook, kindle, and iBook apps, the last 2 seem to have a much nicer gui. I also heard Amazon has the hugest selection, cause well, it's Amazon.
My main concern is ownership & transfer-ability, so my books aren't stuck on one device. Going with kindle seems to solve that so I'm leaning in that direction.
Any reason I shouldn't? Are there any pluses for iBooks I'm not considering?

Also, I just want all my books in one place really which is why I'm trying to choose between apps.

Just to make things clear: there is no ownership when it comes to iBooks and Kindle books—or any other DRM books.
You pay for the right to store and display a book on your devices but the book isn't in any way 'yours'.
I'd go with the Kindle, it works across more devices.
- Oh yea I'm totally clear on that, I guess I used poor phrasingsteven_segal

ok...you'll have to pardon me, as i don't own an ipad yet, but if Stanza is available, it's honestly no contest....Stanza is by FAR a better app than either ibooks or kindle.... much easier for downloading from other sources, much better UI, and easily better for quickly adjusting for font size and background lighting.... in the past few years, i think i've probably read a few hundred books using the Stanza reader for iphone, and have absolutely loved it... it's sad that www.drinkmalk.com is no longer hosting epub books, but there's been more than a few places to go since it went offline... epubbud is pretty good...at first it looks like a site for hosting self-published kid books, but do a quick search, and you'll find a ton of other stuff....a bunch of Heinlein, etc... also, tuebl.com has been pretty awesome, although it's offline at the moment....no idea when that's coming back.... anyhow, Stanza is easily the best e-reader app IMHO......

Kindle over all for the different platforms however I prefer the iBook UI
Also worth a note is an app called Overdrive which allows you to rent books throughout you local library

there's no way to buy a book in the kindle store but read it in ibook is there?\

Kindle is so cheap and portable and pleasant to read on you might want to have one too, especially with the free internet it has—indispensable for international travel.

^this, yes! I love kindle...have it on ipad, iphone, and also have the device - which I prefer when reading books. It also syncs no matter what device you pick up...that alone makes it worthwhile.
