Well, well. I'm sure there are multiple threads about this already, but I can't find them. I also believe that this is design-relevant, very much so indeed.

Anywayz, I'm geeking out on something new this week. Ethnopharmacology. And I am really in love with all the cacti and succulents that have psychoactive properties. Not that I use them, no that would be not good, but I am an avid greenthumb. Anyone here on the QBN have an experience growing the Lopho or the S. Pedro? Suggestions on where to obtain such specimens in the US? What else is out there? Anyone have growing experience. I've been looking mainly at cacti and succulents, but the list of plants goes on and on. (Iboga, Ayahuasca, Acacia...)

I was really inspired by a lecture that Fred Tomaselli gave, he was talking how his garden contained all kinds of plants (intended) for ritualistic and medicinal purposes.

    aren't they just cute...

i have about a dozen san pedros growing on my front porch. buy 'em on ebay, i think you could get several feet for like 30 bucks.

cactus was my first experience with psychedelics, watch it here if you're interested:

also, it's the most vile-tasting shit on the planet, you're better off with acid imo, but it's still fun

    • Yeah, I just read you can buy some plants on ebay. I find that baffling.dasohr
    • just found some live Banisteriopsis caapi for sale. 10 bucks for 3 plants. I <3 ebay.

In general, cacti and succulents are pretty low maintenance. They can take a beating from the sun and don't need tons of water at all. I miss California.

When I was studying cultural studies/anthropology in Hamburg I went to a talk by Christian Rätsch about fly agarics and their connection with santa claus and lawn gnomes. Rätsch is completely nuts, but appears to be an authority in the field of ethnopharmacology, maybe this book can deepen your knowledge

    • +1 thanks! will check into it.

also, take your san pedros inside during winter. and when you get the cuttings in the mail, keep 'em wrapped in paper under your bed or something for about a month so they start growing roots. THEN plant them, otherwise they'll rot in the pot.

peyote really isn't going to be worth your time unless you're just really into the novelty of growing/using it. it's the same shit as in other cacti (mescaline), but takes a ridiculous amount of time (many, many years) and you'd eat like ten in a night so there goes your whole farm

    • lol. the Lopho is all novelty for me. I just think they are so so precious. apparently the ancestors kept some in-house as protector spiritsdasohr
