First project to design a festival poster for an event that will be the main visual for all of their signage... What's a good amount of hours to clock in for something like this? I don't want to bill too many so I can keep business and don't mind working some hours off the clock... any suggestions?

i suppose that depends on how fast you work, and if you're making a woodcut illustration or using 2 lines of helvetica.

things like that we normally send a quote for 8 hours design, with additional time charged at x/hour and get them to sign off on it. that way you've got time to show them a finished piece, and if they want to make further changes, it's their prerogative.
again though, depending on your style and all that...
- that's only 1 day, though...charge 3 days and provide more than one postermonospaced
- ok cool... so its not unlikely to have 20+ hrs for 3 designs to present?payton

Preparing estimates are always a pain in the arse! You never want to go over/low... If the accept it right away, you hate yourself for not charging more, and if they decline it or ask for revision, you hate yourself for overdoing it...
- yeah seriously, and I'm new to the company so I want to show good value.payton
