How far would an $80k + super salary go in Sydney? I've heard it's a pretty expensive place to live, and I'm sure it's a lot more than MPLS where I currently am. I'm just trying to gauge if a person could live comfortably on this.
Also, what is the average salary for a Sr. Designer in Sydney?

bump this later it's 1:30am in Sydney dude. I'm in Melbourne but 80k sounds like a decent salary for sydney.

Should've asked about the agency... if it's top tier that's probably a little low, but not too much. Anything mid or low tier and you should be happy with it.
- It's a big agency, and the super is on top of the 80k, not included.CuriousGeorge

Can you guys recommend some good areas to live in Sydney? Also some good sites to look for places to rent.

You cant go wrong with most suburbs 8km radius around CBD. Further out you go the cheaper it gets.
Eastern Suburbs for beach lifestyle. Newtown/Erskinville for bohemian alternative. Balmain for cosy pubs and village like living. Paddington & Darlinhurst for trendy yuppy.

That's not entirely accurate, but you'll be well under $5k per month on a $80k base salary.
How comfortably you live depends on where you decide to stay. Of coarse if you share a place with somebody, you'll be able to stay closer to the city and be better off.
Most people go here: www.realestate.com.au.
As a designer, you'll probably want to be in the inner-west or eastern suburbs.

decent 1 bedroom apartments are $400-$600 a week
decent 2 bedroom apartments are $600-$800 a week
in the eastern suburbs/beaches - bit less in the Inner West / Newtown- Is paying weekly common? So every price I see is a weekly, not monthly price?CuriousGeorge
- rent is usually paid fortnightly and listed as per week.slappy

I won't be sharing a place as I would be moving with my wife with the plan of me finding work before leaving and her finding work when we get there.
