    How Google controls it.

    Yeah I don't have the Boz on Facebook.

    First of all.. This is My Next is a joke.. it's a bunch of Apple dill-holes that were on (Nilay Patel known Apple fanboy, Joshua Topolsky - known Apple fanboy etc). So when they were dumped or "left" Engadget (probably for being so biased to begin with as Engadget's coverage of products is now much more balanced) they went to make a blog to continue doing Apple's PR work.

    But as always, this is just stupid stuff that's people like you obviously can't fully comprehend.

    Android = open source
    Google's Services (including Android Marketplace) = not open and are proprietary services (whether they are free or not is a different matter)

    WTF is so difficult to understand for your cult driven brain?

    Skyhook is whining because Google is telling Samsung and Motorola and others that if they want to get Google's logo and the ability to run other Google services they have to use Google's Location services as part of the package. There's nothing "evil" in this. It's business.. Motorola and Samsung and others can release the phones without Google's services and lose the Google logo and Skyhook can have people install their software/app through web or alternative stores, but they choose not to.. They want successful and good services and that's why they choose Google.

    Google has an agreement and terms of use. Those who want to use their services need to abide by those rules or not use Google's services. Simple.

    Skyhook is butt hurt because these manufacturers have agreement with Google and they want Google to allow them to offer within their OWN service Skyhook's location service. Doesn't make sense.

    And it really doesn't have anything to do with Android per-se.

    I understand them why they are upset. They are smaller company, only offer location services and the fact that big boys all choose google over Skyhook is bad for Skyhook's business. But that's not Google's fault.

    Would it be ideal for Google to tell everyone. Hey, we will just allow everyone to use everything how ever they want and that's it. So Motorola can go and use Gmail, or Google Docs, but can offer Skyhook's location services and then Samsung will offer Google Location services but offer Bing search email etc etc..

    That's not how it works. Google gave us amazing mobile OS that's open source. That means that you can go, compile the code, put it on your device, make your own app store and simply do fantastic stuff. Then you can use Bing, you can use whatever your heart desires.

    This is why Google DOESN'T control Android.. they only control their own services and Android market.

    Everything is still very much open and competitive but Apple fanboys and Apple are trying so hard to find something to cling on to justify their own retarded anti-competitive, anti-consumer, closed up the whazoo platform.

    But hey, ernexbcn, good luck with that 1 choice of hard drive you can buy only from Apple now. WHen you though they couldn't be more proprietary up the butthole.
