Vimeo:
More professional, better quality, looks better, design/ art oriented.Youtube:
The opposite of everything stated below, plus you will be compiting with fart videos, but there's potential to reach a bigger audience.

If you want to generate traffic > youtube
If you want a beautiful video that no one sees > vimeo- hehe, quite accurate :PHombre_Lobo
- no BS, vimeo can get big numbers for the right videoeieio

vimeo doesn't allow you to post any trace of any commercial stuff (shows, games, footage of any kind that might have commercial stuff in it).. so it's only your videos and your videos alone.. even if it has music they will take it down.
This is what prevents me from using them.. sometimes I want to make some instructions and record videos that involved Xbox or computer or some apps.. I can't because Vimeo will take it down.
Youtube..it doesn't. Plus YouTube is supported everywhere with APIs and shit.. vimeo not so much.
But Vimeo is much to the point service, there is a pay option where you get wonderful HD quality etc.. so if quality is needed Vimeo wins hands down.

Both. Vimeo is nice, youtube is popular.

@Boz
sorry, but can you explain further?
i've broken numerous copyright laws using Vimeo and they've never even touched a video. in fact, i have friends who have done this as well and been featured on the staff picks section. youtube on the other hand automates video censorship, and many times you have to appeal to them in order to repost videos. what did vimeo send you when they took your video down?

use vimeo.

hold on, if you going to put up your xxx rated stuff then none of them. lol.

as far as brits and fags and gay...
it's not their word, don't let his smug elitism fool you. fag is originally meant as slow and drooping c 1520 from there it developed into loose piece. as far as fag/cigarette it wasn't until the late 1880/1890's that it referred to cigarettes and more specifically was originally referring to just the debris that was the smoked butt. it's simply british slang. nothing original.
which brings us to gay or gai which did originally mean merry/carefree and strangely still does in many english speaking nations, but it is originally french with documented use as early as the 1300's a jaunt 1500 km north of the borrowing brits who came together as great britain or britain in the early 1700's
