in all seriousness, I would buy one of those netbooks.
something by asus or one of those, they are cheap, strong plastic and to the point. You can do all kinds of shit on it, like email and youtube.
- I have one of these for shits and giggles and LOVE the dag-gone thing. It Rocks for $300 bucks.ghandolf

I wanna get the 2 best brands and then choose the better one. Someone told me Toshiba, but I'm not sure.

I've heard that Toshiba has gone way way way down in quality.

I've had bad experiences with HP (current laptop is an HP and it runs awfully hot).
I've had great experience with Dells, and had very minimal non-forced trouble with them. Also, with them being so common it means if anything does go wrong it's usually a cheap and easy fix you can do yourself. I've dropped a Dell and replaced components easily myself, and my parents Dell got water damage and it was really easy and really cheap for me to get a replacement keyboard, clean up the mobo and get it running again.
Lenovo are great. I've never owned one but it's pretty much the one brand (Mac included) that I've not known anyone to have trouble of any sort with.
A sort-of colleague knocked their newish Lenovo off their desk at work while running (no magnetic power cables!) and it didn't gtet a scratch on it and the HD still seems fine as well.
- no matter what computer you are using, I doubt it gets hotter than a mbpMiguex
- Oh mine does. I opened it up and put some thermal paste on it, but before then I'd managed to leave minor burn marks on a table... Now it's on a big fan.********

Dell.... refurb, $255 and I'm very happy.... runs Win7 nicely... put some more RAM in, easy.....
Dell advantage for me is drivers are always findable, and parts are orderable.... not so much for some other brands....
- I LOVED my old Levono, but it died due to being dropped.... oh well....vaxorcist

Honestly, I've come to view PC laptops as semi-disposable, I get one every few months for $300 or so, I usually end up destroying them due to travel / bumpy / backpack usage.... I reformat the hard drive every few months, as it helps prevent windows sucking so much.... and I keep stuff on external USB drives....
rather than paying $2000 for a laptop that costs $300 to fix as an "investment" when I do the same thing....
- I've got 7 months out of my current Dell, only one small crack in the case....vaxorcist
