Why are you looking at changing from GMail?

Give reasoning and list your issues so people might be able to make informed suggestions.

i've got a gmail account where all my other accounts (6) forward to automatically. every few months or so i have to log in to retrieve deleted messages and such - i think there's close to 120k emails in there now. will make it easy for me to write my memoirs when i'm old.

I haven't found a (free) email service that trumps Gmail–yet. Not that i'm looking either. That said, I do wish the gmail UI would receive a facelift.

I suppose what I'm really after is a way of sending from my domain email address when using mail app on iphone. My domain is forwarding only address which forwards to gmail. Online is fine, sending from my domain address using gmail. Mail app and google on iphone dont allow this though. Is there a work round?

Atkinson,
Yup. Setup googleapps for your domain. You'll have to change some DNS zone file information but it's relatively painless. That way you can use gmail to manage your email while sending/recieving mail from your domain name.

Thanks, Google apps is very limited and fussy unless you have say 10 or more employees. I do have it at another address. My emails are 30gb - apps can't come close to that without the premium / expensive upgrade.
I've found a work around that allows me to send from my domain using mail app which is what I've been after for a long time - didn't know it was possible.
