Indesign (CS3) doesn't seem to like PSDs with transparent background placed on spot colours. The spot prints, but the image only comes out as a white silhouette. Any idea what's going wrong?

create a clipping path on your PSD file.
Or make your backgrounds in Photoshop.
- and put a white mask behind your picture layer.VikingKingEleven

let me say that a little more coherently.
Add a white mask and clipping path to your PSD file
or
Create your backgrounds in photoshop.
This could also a post script error. Try flattening your document and print to see if the error replicates.

By flattening do you mean Transparency Flattening, when exporting a PDF?

If you're mixing spot color and transparency you need to VIEW with Overprint Preview turned on. You need to PRINT with Overprint turned on. If you're printing to a printer that doesn't understand overprinting, you need to check the Simulate Overprinting option.
- It isn't allowing overprint on the image... this is ridiculous. No problem viewing it on screen!i_monk

just save it as Transparent tiff.
