Trackpad Skipping

Morning everyone,
For a couple of weeks now my Macbook's trackpad has been skipping about half an hour into use (after a restart) - rendering it almost impossible to use, and close to one of the most frustrating things to try and navigate.
I've connected my magic mouse, but the trackpad keeps skipping and overriding it.
I've tried wiping the trackpad down a number of times to no avail.
Anyone had anything similar?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dom

I had what sounds like a similar issue — the mouse button on the trackpad clicking intermittently. Turns out my (5 year old) battery had expanded and was placing pressure from underneath, causing the problem.

bump.
I have the 13inch early 2011 MBP and my trackpad just started acting crazy yesterday. I've wiped it down and still acting glitchy. wth! I've never spilled anything on it and have always had a Moshi palm guard and trackpad protector on it.
any help?

Had the same problem with my 2010 MBP. A few things that worked for me:
- There's this setting somewhere that ignores all trackpad input when a mouse is connected.
- When the trackpad / arrow is acting up again, a good hard tap on the trackpad seems to work for me.
