I have an .avi file I want to join with subtitles, Im trying to this in quicktime pro but either the file is huge 8-16 gbs or it doesnt completly finish and its huge is there a better way to do this? maybe i have the wrong settings? please advice

are you in a competition thats basis is frustration?
do it in the correct software- like FCP,Premiere, or iMovie even.
You may need Perian installed in your QT pro to play nicely with .AVI's, but overall it sounds like youre trying to cook a turkey in a closet with an easy bake oven- maybe you can pull it off, but theres way better places to do it.

how about muxing it into an MKV?

Your subtitles have nothing to do with the size, spit it out as QuickTime with JPG compression and watch the filesize drop, or use H264 and watch it drop even farther!

I would suggest using Handbrake. It will mux it all together.
If you're going to watch in itunes, I like the AppleTV mpeg4 preset.

I know the subtitles have nothing to do with the size just explaining my situation so u have all the info to answer properly i know it something with my settings i just dont know hoe to do it properly
