depends on data. best way is to have a client use a CMS tool.

I can say from experience that hand-edited XML files are more fragile than you may think, especially in the hands of some people....
unless you encase EVERYTHING in CDATA tags.... but even then.....

depends on what your doing with the xml , if your going to look into php you might as well handle the data with mysql , or load data into a mysql table and build dynamic xml files

I built a html page that used php to edit a specific xml file. Took ages to do the php and involved a lot of head scratching + google searching. Lot's of tricky things to look out for, for example php overwriting the cdata tags etc. But once it's done, you can easily cut and paste your code for future clients CMS's. You can have my code for £1000.

You can just get one of those prebuilt Flash CMS's. Look on Activeden.net or there's that one called rainbow cms that someone on here made, looks pretty dummy-proof >

use php to create a cms to update the xml. thats what we do.
