In illustrator is there a setting / plugin to get it to show the line before you click to add a point. If that makes sense?
I was messing with inkscape has it has this nice feature.

not yet - but here's a similar usability in illustrator
start a line, on the second point, click and hold-drag to get bezier points to come out, next, without releasing the mouse button, hold down the spacebar to adjust location of second point (but not angle of bezier), release the spacebar to be able to adjust bezier angles again, this can be done multiple times before you release the mouse button and set the point

I could have sworn there was a Scriptographer script to do something similar though I don't see it now on their site. Perhaps have a look through? If you're not familiar with it, it's a nice scripting plugin for Illustrator that allows you to build your own drawing tools.

Thanks. So I guess we aren't there yet. I'm familiar with scripographer though I mostly have it un-activated as I found it caused Illy to crash on quit - but now that I think about it I do remember something being there that would show you the curve...
Hmmm I'll have a look around.
Cheers.
