Can anyone recommend any good mac software I can use with Illustrator, or photoshop in order to make fonts from images/shapes? I have seen the online paid converters like: www.yourfonts.com, and have also had a look at fontographer. But just wanted something simple so I can have a play with creating simple fonts. Any ideas? Any plugins?

Fontforge. Open source postscript font editor to create postscript, TrueType, opentype, cid-keyed and bitmap (bdf) fonts. http://fontforge.sourceforge.net…

I did see this, but was really looking for something simpler. Not had too much success installing this either. Out of interest, how does something like yourfonts.com work? is the scripting openly available?

Would anyone recommend Typetool? http://www.fontlab.com/font-edit… or is there any other mac based font creation software?

I've been building typefaces using the (rebuilt) Fontographer . It is not free but it is still a pretty solid typeface editing tool . You can make your glyphs in Illustrator (or Photoshop with the Path tool) and easily paste the result into Fontographer .
From there you'll need to work on things such as Kerning pairs etc, but it's rewarding .

maybe you want to try that: www.myscriptfont.com
similar to yourfonts but free. It is not very accurate though.

I have seen myscriptfont.com and it made me want to do more experimentation with fonts. I think typetool might be the answer as it seems like a simpler version of Fontographer and at a more acceptable cost for expermentation. Thank you all for you input

Anyone tried this before?
http://www.fontconstructor.com/

Yeah I tried using font constructor, for some reason I couldn't get it to work so well. It does mention in the documentation that you can copy-paste your drawing from Illustrator, however I couldn't get this to correctly work.
