good whiskey?
try doyle's in JP, i'm pretty sure they have the largest whiskey menu in boston. you can combine that with a sam adams brewery tour for the 'get real fucked up early on a saturday' kind of vibe, it being st pats day and all.http://boston.citysearch.com/pro…
doyle's is an institution, the kennedys have drunk there, the history is soaking out of the floorboards.
brewery tours (it's walking distance from doyle's, but they do provide a trolley):
http://www.samueladams.com/share…for culture, the ICA down by the water is worth a visit, and the MFA recently unveiled their new American wing, designed by Norman Foster, also quite worth the price of admission.
newbury st for people watching, lansdowne st or central sq in cambridge for the saturday evening vibe, faneuil hall for the touristy crap.
and, seriously, people, fuck mike's pastry. BOVA'S!!!!

to quote:
"Reasons to go here instead of Mike's:
1. Much shorter lines
2. Equally if not better tasting pastries
3. Cheaper
4. No hype to live up to
5. No stupid box that immediately identifies you as a tourist. Bostonians do not go to Mike's."

Have no clue what your interests are but some broad recommendations:
*ICA is a must
*Lizard Lounge (tiny venue with good music in Cambridge)
*B&G Oysters (South End)
*North End is pretty cool

I grew up an hour and a half from Boston. Lived there for a year.
I hate it.
Go anywhere else instead.
Plus that college slut pictured above left.

I was born in Cambridge, but left when I was a kid.... haven't been back much since, but I do remember a great sandwich shop and a star market parking lot very well....

Steer clear of the women there. I've spent a lot of time there when I was younger, and get there often these days on client meetings. I've found others that agree, but the girls there are just not that attractive. They're all pretty banged up. They've got this kind of "longshoreman" look to them, kind of weathered from the ocean. They all seem to have pretty thick attitudes and look like they'd fight another girl in a heartbeat if they looked at her guy.
Aside from that, sky's the limit for great Italian food and seafood. I highly suggest a browse through Faneul Hall, where you can eat any of dozens of things. Great pizza, steamed mussels, fried clams, clam chowder, desserts, etc. I always allow for an hour or so there before heading back to the airport.

- This does include national/internation... hotties at the universities there.mg33

you know, the St Patrick's Day parade in Southie is this weekend, if you really want a quintessential Boston experience:
http://www.southbostonparade.org…come see grown men puke at 10 am! bagpipes! that weird irish dancing where you're not allowed to move your hands!
if you've seen the one in NYC, though, you can skip this one, it's pretty much the same, only the accents are slightly different.

Boston has very few hipsters who think they're too cool for school...
I'd rather be in Boston than Brooklyn ANY day or time of the year

Get some good seafood...forget the North End....although it's way better than New York's little Italy (which is pretty shitty actually)

I kindof agree about North End vs Little Italy. Little Italy at one time was the better of the two, but it has changed a lot. There are some business groups in the North End that are pushing to remake Hanover into the equivalent of Newbury Street
