I just picked up one of the new Quad 2.0GHz i7 MacBook Pros with 4GB of RAM and Photoshop is reallllly chugging. The performance is like I'm remotely using the machine or something. Weirdest part is that it doesn't happen until after a good 20-25 minutes of using it.
Tried these possible solutions to no avail:
-Setting it to run in 32-bit instead of 64
-Allocated more RAM for Photoshop
-Reducing cache levels and history statesThe only thing that remedies the issue is a restart and then it's good for another 20-25 minutes again.
Memory leak? Has anyone else had similar issues?

you could have a bad ram stick or it isn't seated properly. i had a similar problem on my imac. bad ram stick.

the imac was brand new at the time.

Don't think that's it. I should mention that everything else works fine outside of Photoshop. Even moving the windows around in Photoshop is perfectly smooth, but as soon as I dig in to the document it's game over.

Obvious comment, but have you deleted PS and tried reinstalling it?

Just set the OpenGL settings to Basic. That seems to have done the trick!
- something still smells of a problem. the openGL is for 3d render. which does suck at 300 dpideathboy
- everything else it shouldnt really effect unless its those little tilt doodads, but still those new ones have a gig of ramdeathboy
- and the 512mb cards prev macs work fine with it on... oh nvrmind theyre basic, my 2gb card is advanced..deathboy

It does still seem like a problem deathboy. Just checked a friend's laptop that was one of the ones released just before mine and his is on Normal. No problems. Seems it's an Adobe problem though, so hopefully they'll update or something.

the new macbook pro 2011models seem to have severe hardware flaws. see my blog post for more information and a collection of all the web ressources on that topic: http://j.mp/dLSqgy
