Say you've designed cards for yourself or a client, and you've employed a wee bit of fancy in there.
Perhaps a fancy print process, an emboss or a die cut — maybe a fold, an interesting substrate.. whatever. Just something to make it stand out a little more than a typical white rectangle.
What sort of unit cost would you expect is tolerable for a 'fancy' business card?
Thankingyous!

What quantity?
- *shrugs* Go wild, cowboy - unit cost is what I'm curious about...detritus
- could be awkward though if two clients meet and one thinks: "well, why have I gotten the fucking cheap card?" but thats unlikely to happen anywaypressplay

should be under 1 euro for even the fanciest card... we had a strategy for a recent client to print a limited amount of very fancy cards (edge coloring, spot color) to give away to the more important contacts and a huge amount of cards printed cheaper (same design) to give away thoughtlessly
- EUR1 eh? Ouch. I totally agree with the two-tier strategy, mind.detritus

we usually keep the cost of printing at a set % profit, no matter if it's $100 order or $10,000. then we charge hourly for design. we do it that way because there's 2 of us working together, and it makes it easy to give out ballpark quotes if one of us is not present.

Our cards ended up costing about $1.25 per card. Worth every penny.

worked on some once for a sushi chef that were stainless steel, custom shape, hole drilled, and screen printed. i think they were around $6 per card at cost. he was out of business within a few months... but still, cool cards.
