Seth Weintraub wears makeupGetting that out of the way, Weintraub really went out of his way to technically skew and distort Jobs keynotes. With little details in hardware and sales. Even if corrected, doesn't change anything. Weintraub continues to sprinkle his troll dust throughout his article with negative notations, sarcasm and opinionated facts on Apple. The latest trend of Trolls trying to figure out how Steve jobs work.
- But Steve LIED.lukus_W2
- .. I think Apple might have turned a corner - maybe popular opinion is starting to turn too.lukus_W2
- He didn't LIE. People do not like how SJ does his math and translations.omg
- SJ has his competitors flummoxed turning over pebbles looking for shit to throw.omg
- No, I think it's simply become too difficult to ignore the stench.lukus_W2
- He did lie.. plain and simple.. wtf does math have to do with it.. Everything in that CNN article is 100% true.Boz
- yeh boz and lukus are right. sj is a lying fucktard. a rich fucktard, but a liar. thanks for sharing lukus.Hombre_Lobo

No other company does keynotes like Apple with Steve Jobs, you don't see in any major newspaper when other company do their events, that only happens with Apple, and yes they always begin with the current status of the company, interesting facts they want to share and then move on to product announcement and features.
I have to agree with you with some of the promo videos they run on the keynotes with all the Apple top guys saying how things are magical and made with unicorn blood, those are a bit silly, but the rest is impeccable.
- thats true, you dont often see in the papers keynote events about about anyone but apple!Hombre_Lobo

watched some of the ipad 2 keynote event today. And jesus fucking christ, it was the most self-gratifying pretentious load of bs ive ever seen.
Its basically steve jobs banging on about how great their products are and how much they've sold, showing competitors and laughing at them... yeah real classy.
I dont know of any company that is lame enough to show competitors and show lesser sales and literally laugh at them.
He also misquoted samsung vice president in regard to the galaxy tab sales.
Apple make GREAT products, fucking great products. Its obvious they do. The masses love them and their marketing is exemplary
But their promo videos and these arrogant keynote speeches just completely ruin it. Clearly the fanboys lap it up, and it obviously doesn't affect sales but its just cringe worthy. All those sales cant buy them an ounce of class, clearly.
You'd expect a company that takes design so seriously to be culturally aware and conscious of their image and taste in these events and promo videos.
The products are fantastic, but the promo videos are laughable, cliched riddle and cringe worthy. The keynote event (ipad 2) was just self gratifying and tasteless.
- Keynotes are for the press and enthusiasts mind you.ernexbcn
- Not only do the other companies laugh at Apple when they can, they make commercials to do it. It never works.monospaced
- never works. Also, Apple wouldn't have press conferences like this if people didn't pack them like they do. Nobody else can.monospaced
- yeh mono, they clearly work. people flock to them, papers write about them. i just find them so uncomfortable.Hombre_Lobo

Time to buy the 1st gen cheap soon I guess. Is 16GB enough? My 16GB iPhone is only half-packed and I won't be keeping much music on the iPad...

Speaking of options, while there were 6 versions of original iPad, Apple just announced 18 versions of iPad 2.

Oh, and once that animation sequence is in place then they've added that nice dragging momentum feature where it feels as if the smart cover is falling into place. But that's just an illusion. For example, the closing of the cover seems to have a rule like: if frame >= 49 then animate from here until frame = 93.
- stewdio0
In Safari if you right-click on it and select "Inspect Element" and then try the clicking and dragging again you can see that it's just frames from an animation sequence (as JPEGs) displayed either in ascending or descending order as you drag. For example . . .
Here is the final frame, image no. 93:
Here's a middle frame, image no. 46:
And here is the first frame, image no. 0:
- cool, thankshans_glib
- Oh yes and you think this is news?jadrian_uk
- Hey @jadrian_uk I was just answering @hans_glib's above question. Don't be rude.stewdio

on a separate note, how do they do the click and drag smart cover open/shut demo on this page?

This has to be the glossiest page on the web... almost too glossy

Why can't these other companies design a tablet that doesn't LOOK like and iPad. Tablets have been around for a decade now, and Apple creates a tablet that differentiates its own unique look, only to lose it to these copycats who basically want a cheaper iPad.

Yup. Too many options, too many different models. Options are good, but there also needs to be some consistent effort on evolution, not making a new model then dropping, then a new model, then dropping it.
Personally, I'll pay for somethign well designed, well built and easy to use. I really wish PC companies would watch and learn and at least offer something similar.
Same can be said with cell phones.
- ETM0
^ The blessing and the curse is that PC hardware manufacturers provide options and revisions for every little new or updated component out there, unlike Apple where you have to wait up to a year to find out what they will even adopt and offer the consumer.

They are just marketing geniuses. More than that, Apple has created a singular (or narrow vision - limited products, but all quality, not 5 billion HTC phones!), executed on that vision (something no one else can seem to do), then market the hell out of it.
Really, to me, that's what makes it all quite fascinating. From top to bottom, from concept through execution through marketing is all exceptional.
[again, I have owned 1 Apple product my entire life, my iPhone, so certainly am not a 'fanboy']
Personally, I just can't get over how clumsy everyone else seems to be. From Ballmer promising a W7 HP device to the billion choices out there without one being superior.
I go look at the Dell website (as a happy Dell owner of countless workstations) but I get lost. Too many options, too many trivial things to sift through.
I guess there is a market for all this, but as computers get faster and faster, graphic card choices mean less and less. So, if their stock were to plummet for any reason, I'd buy tons simply because their business is just far superior to almost any company I can think of.
- ye maybe but i dont see what's fascinating about itjadrian_uk
- Uncompromised success? Great industrial design? Great track record? Great performance and consistency?formed

Who gives a fuck... all around. Its just a consumer product and 9 months or less after buying the last one its a piece of shit. Go outside everyone. That is all.
*signs up for iPad 2 presale.
