good riddance... some of these IT departments staff seemed to be at war with web developers and agencies... they hated us, feared anything web-related
and anything we did with some of them at huge companies had to be done on whatever hugely expensive middleware they had just been lured into buying and maintaining on their empire of soon-to-be-obsolete hardware staffed by idiots who had just recently passed MCSE certification classes (Memorized Complete Syntax Encylopedia) rather than actually had a useful knowledge..
Cloud stuff is what I was always hoping for, an "it just works" infrastructure that doesn't need a million meetings to get a fucking password out of somebody who's rightfully fearing for his job and all his do-nothing but debut Microsoft shit underlings....
- sorry for the rant, but this has percolated for toooooo long...vaxorcist

Now it's the same with open source packed solutions(prestashop, wp tec..), they are shit , like os commerce wtf, all that shit code to get a shoping cart?
- Magento wtf , it sucks like a MS applicationjadrian_uk
- haha,, how many millions of hours have been lost to humanity trying to untangle an oscomm. bug ?mikotondria3
- I've come to believe buggy software is usually caused by trying to please too many factionsvaxorcist

well....bit of a rant I must admit...that's why I'm very careful about choosing dev gigs now, I'm more photo/video, less dev, as I admit to some burnout... and some PTSD from dealing with certain IT dept people..... they seem to be the opposite of good webhost geeks, who are often very helpful once you get the right person...

I do a lot of work for a university, and I swear it's 25% actually doing the job, and 75% dealing with IT bullshit of one kind or another.

Hello IT. Have you tried turning it off and on again?
- vaxorcist0
It shouldn't have to be this way, but sometimes it is...I think I had a one more negative experience than some others....
Over time, I've grown to feel sympathy for the IT folk, they have randomly changing responsiblities, weirdly political bosses and commitees to deal with, and lots of potentially unhappy to try to please.... and they all fear for their jobs, knowing the administration is often viewing them as a cost sinkhole....
Cloud Computing does have the risk of slowness or data loss, but the fact that it "just works" and has known limitations may cause the bosses to stop asking for contradictory shit, one case where outsourcing may be good, to jump beyond the internal dysfunctional management shit that often happens to IT depts...

"keep track of hardware inventory and software licenses and compliance".

It's just like recruiters now they all talk about smarty and prestashop, i cant get into prestashop , it's just awful. all that to connect to a bank server? and still prestashop doesnt include that as every bank cgi as its own properties/config. so what let's all follow the mainstream and start like "oh i did this prestashop dropdown menu'! , yes and i know css and JS but im learning again to build menus. fuck.

i worked with an i.t. man who kept a fifth of jack in his little leather briefcase / toolbox, in between all the little tiny screwdrivers. he swore that mac and pc were better than each other.
