New iMac keeps shutting down randomly. What might be the cause? I ran all the possible diagnostics. Everything seems fine. Did a full reinstall of OS.

turn the shit in at the apple store.

shit. I had the same exact problem. Nothing seemed to fix it. I had to get an all new machine.

I troubleshot this to no end. There's really no specific cause or fix. Many did feel that it was a ram issue and removed a considerable amount of their ram and that fixed it. But that's an unacceptable fix if you spent good money on a system specifically for a lot of ram.

There are pages and pages of discussions about this on the Apple forums. Most of it is ppl reporting their trouble shooting. The rest is new ppl popping up asking for help. They argue over intricacies of the issue and variables of possible solutions, but over all it didn't help a bit. It was actually that much more frustrating to know it's happening that frequently and still there's no real acknowledgment from Apple, never mind any real fix.

Could be a dodgy power supply. I had that issue on my previous iMac a few years ago, and Apple took care of it even outside the 1yr warranty.
Take it in to the Apple Store, or reseller you bought it from.

So I removed all the ram that I upgraded. When I put the ram iMac came with it worked fine all night. Go figure!
