Does anyone think this kind of rips off Eddie Guy?
http://www.pentagram.com/en/DJ_P…- I think that style was in the popular vernacular long before Eddie Guy.Amicus

A company the size, and reputation, of Pentagram has to be "boring" (or "safe").

I've never gotten them either. Some quality there, for sure, but the new site doesn't work well (not on my computers and browsers anyway) and the work is kinda flat.
To each their own.

Why must be funny?
Is good. And like it, good is the enemy of the best.

I thought the identity work they did for The University of Michigan Museum of Art was dreary. And the nonsense they came up with for The Big Ten, including the division naming, was just plain bad. There were actually substantial protests about the Big Ten work...I wasn't the only one who thought it was shit.
- most of the complains seams to be that it should be 12 and not 10. that's not their problem. it's the clients.akrok
- i guess they liked the old one, cause they looked like shit. hm, i guess we know what they like them.akrok

There shit is classic. It will still look good 20 years from now as opposed to all the shit now passing as cool will look dated as hell. Pentagram just aren't trend whores like the rest of the 20 and 30 something designers these days.

If I were to guess:
They go after and attract a particular kind of client, who sees their other work and says "like that, but for us", and the gears turn on their process machinery and out comes something that looks like it fits with most of their other work.
It's not a criticism unless you think everything has to be completely different to be good.

I dont think that everything is the same, I just see the work as good design. Each is different enough for me.

For a collective all of their work is in a certain vein of style, thats true.
But there is nothing wrong with that. Would like to get my hands on some clients like that ;)
