Require a week for QBN accounts to allow posting?
Just thinking out loud here.

Sounds good! Some sort of tier program.
I advocated invites before, but that seems... tricky. But think how good it would be!

or we could just have a competent mod

get a mod in here. simple as that.
and swap 'em every few months so no big heads & abuse of power.

Invites won't work.

Many forums don't allow new members to post URLs until they have been around a certain amount of time or have had a certain amount of posts. Seems that would weed out many fly by night SEO seeders and spammers.
- Plus get a freakin' mod.ETM
- what happens when they make random threads to increase their post count?dorf
- do it strictly by server time, not participationcannonball1978

Personally I'd like to solve the problem with a systemic fix instead of empowering a mod.

I think rather than a mod, the community should be able to moderate itself through the use of a button to mark as spam. Spam comments can be handled the same way. Obviously people with fake accounts etc could abuse this, but I doubt this would be that much of an issue compared to the wider problem.
Having a mod can lead to power trip issues, and it's also a lot of work for a single person to do. It's better for the collective to stamp what is good/bad than a single person.
My 2 cents :)

good idea cannonball.
maybe 2 weeks before links can be posted.
I also like the thumbs/up down voting of some forums/comments systems. Possibly thumbs up or down on the actual accounts with an automatic ban if there are 10x the number of thumbs down.

have the qbn lords gone awol? do they even care?
when the latest version of qbn released it was all class, or at least felt that way, like a curated blog / magazine platform...
